A CALL FOR A WHOLE HEARTED COMMITMENT. ARE WE RIGHTEOUS?

THEME : A CALL FOR A WHOLEHEARTED COMMITMENT
TEXT : DEUTERONOMY 6:13-18
Deuteronomy 6:13-18 “Be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. 13 You must fear the Lord your God and server Him. When you take an oath, you must use only His name. 14 You must not worship any of the gods of neighboring nations, 15 for the Lord your God, who lives among you, is a jealous God. His anger will flare up against you, and He will wipe you from the face of the earth. 16 You must not test the Lord your God as you did when you complained at Massah. 17 You must diligently obey the commands of the Lord your God- all laws and decrees he has given you. 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so all will go well with you. Then you will enter and occupy the food land that the Lord’s swore to give your ancestors.
This was the old testament and this is what our ancestors had to go through.  A long list of laws given to them which served as a mirror to look into. You look in it and immediately you see how sinful you are. And there were punishments whenever you became a victim of these commandments, and God’s wrath and anger was upon sinners. But later in that scripture it says “Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight and all will go well with you.” Meaning the opposite for wrong doers. But Genesis 6:9 makes us know, that there was a time in the old, when none was righteous except a man called Noah. And God decided to bring his wrath on man by washing away everyone from the earth with water but Noah and his household was saved. Why because he was the only one who did what was right in the sight of God.
Righteousness in the dictionary means free from sin/ moral or virtuous.
And Romans 3:10 -18 describes us that that for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But down to verse 19 to 20 says “Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. 20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
From here Righteousness is being explained as being right with God.
And that’s what we have to strive for as today Christians, we can’t do right to please God, we can only be right and be at peace with him. And with that, we are given the power to live the hard life (abstaining from the desires of the flesh and of the world). And in Romans 3:21 – 31, we can find how God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the law, but we are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are, no matter the colour, sex , nationality, age or any other difference. God freely provided Jesus Christ to come and die for our sins and its implication is that in that death, we died with Him, and we are now resurrected with Him, so we aren’t slaves to sin and the power of darkness anymore. This is because He has taken the keys of death and overcome the enemy for us already. So all we need to do now is walk and take steps in that knowledge.  We are conquerers and nothing stops us or hinders us except our own weakness (body).
Some scriptures worth reading:
Proverbs 21 : 21
2 Corinthians 5 : 21
James 5 : 16
There are tons of promises made by God to we believers and being righteous we have to possess these blessings for the glory of Him who has called us into His marvelous light.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for this word. I have now come to the understanding that you died also to make me righteous thus making me right with God. And in that knowledge, I am declaring my self righteous and whole in You.I pray that you empower me and be with me for the rest of my life. And let what you have said about my life as a righteous man come to pass. In Jesus name. Amen.
